Under-20 world champion in the 800m Emmanuel Wagnoni on Saturday won the silver medal in the men’s 800m final at the IAAF World Championships in Budapest.

Wannione dropped to second after Canadian Marco Arup’s style of running from behind paid off after the buzzer when he passed the youngster to win in a time of 1 minute 44.24 seconds.

It was an improvement for the Sudanese-born 24-year-old Arup, who finished third last year in Oregon.

The 19-year-old Wanyone, who finished fourth last year, clocked 1:44.53 minutes to claim his improved silver medal.

Commonwealth bronze medalist Ben Pattison in the 800 metres, won bronze again for Great Britain.

Meanwhile, the country’s dancing queen Marie Mora is focused on gold for Kenya after a stellar storm to win in heat three during the 800m semi-finals on Friday night.

The Commonwealth champion is looking to improve on her bronze medal in Eugene last year and join Kenya’s glorious roster of women in the 800m.

Moraa ran 1:58.48 to win heat three, ahead of American Athing MU, who clocked 1:58.78. Ugandan Halima Nakayi recorded a time of 1:58.89 minutes. She is the only Kenyan in the two-lap sprint final.

“I’m going to the final knowing that it will be difficult. The main focus will be to control the pace. I’m ready for the final and I hope to be in good shape. I would be grateful for any medal but the focus is on the gold,” Moura said before the final.
